We had a lot of family fun in the Wisconsin Dells again last week. The weather was perfect and amazingly there were no major injuries this time. The wave pool was a great hit until somebody dropped a "Babyruth" in it and shut it down for a while. The kids went on so many water slides that we even wore out both the boys. Grandma and Grandpa Greene came with and took great care of us.
As planned, this week will be the start of a new type of chemo. But first there is some good news and bad news. The good news is that the infection that was there previously has resolved due to your prayers, a good white blood cell count, and anti-biotics. It's also good that we found what the source of the infection was. The bad news is that the source was the port in the chest working it's way a little too close to the skin and it will need to be replaced. Please pray that this procedure goes smoothly for Rachel.
Tomorrow she will have a MRI to more specifically determine the progress of the chemo. This is a more sensitive test than the ultrasound from a couple weeks ago. Please pray for Rachel to not feel claustrophobic during the procedure and for the skill of the Radiologists who read her scan. The new chemo drug is called Taxol and will be given once weekly. Due to the port needing replacement, she will need to receive this first dose through a vein in the arm. It should have less adverse effects in the first few weeks of treatment but the side effects tend to build with successive dosing. It has a 2 to 4% chance of an anaphylactic(bad) reaction so she will receive 3 pre-medications to reduce the risk. Please pray that there would be no allergic reaction, for minimal side effects, and effectiveness of the new drug.
